A local cigar shop may open a new location and lounge in the Silverlake retail center.
E&A Cigars is an established business in Pearland looking at a larger space at 10201 Broadway.

“We cater to individuals that need somewhere to have a cigar, watch television and an opportunity to get out of this heat we have for eight to nine months of the year,” Gary Willingham told members of the Planning and Zoning Commission, which on July 1 voted to recommend Pearland City Council approve a conditional use permit for the new location.
Willingham and two others spoke in support of the shop and owner, Eddie Aquilar.

“All his customers feel very comfortable in his shop,” said Friendswood resident Norma McVicker.

Any smoking at the location would be subject to city ordinances on smoking in public places, staff said. The shop also includes a ventilation system.

At the same July 1 meeting, the commission voted 5-1 to recommend a conditional use permit for a car wash at 8013 Broadway St.

Requested by a roofing business, the commission voted to recommend a rezone from office to general commercial for 2641 Roy Road near the intersection of Broadway Street. The site, currently occupied by a warehouse, is next to an auto repair shop, dentist office and vacant lots.

The City Council is expected to discuss the issues and hear the commission’s recommendations at its July 22 regular meeting.
