The City of Friendswood once again hosted its cherished 4th of July celebration, marking an impressive 129 years of continuous Independence Day festivities. This year’s celebration was a resounding success, bringing together the community in a vibrant display of patriotism and unity.

The day kicked off with the much-anticipated parade, which featured over 150 entries, including an array of floats, cars, fire trucks, performers, and more. The streets were lined with enthusiastic spectators, all eager to witness the creative and spirited presentations. The parade was led by this year’s Grand Marshal, retired FHS Band Director Greg Dick.
Parade judges had the challenging task of selecting the best entries in various categories.

The winners were:
– Best Overall: Hope Lutheran Church
– Best Float: Keep Friendswood Beautiful
– Best Decorated Vehicle: Bluebonnet Antique Tractor Club
– Best Performance Group: FHS Wranglerettes
– Best Decorated Bicycle (7 & Under): The Bridgemohan Boys
– Best Decorated Bicycle (8-12): Kyle Ruffin
– Best Decorated Bicycle (13+): Jet Garza

Following the parade, attendees gathered at Centennial Park for an afternoon of music and entertainment. The crowd was treated to a high-energy performance by the Spazmatics, who kept the atmosphere lively with all hit music from the 80s and 90s.

The night concluded with a spectacular fireworks show, lighting up the sky and bringing the day’s festivities to a brilliant close. Families and friends gathered to watch the dazzling display, a fitting end to a day filled with joy and celebration.

Mayor Mike Foreman expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in making the event a success. “Our 4th of July celebration would not be possible without the tireless efforts of our incredible volunteers and City Staff. Thank you to all who participated and helped organize this wonderful event.”

Residents interested in volunteering for next year’s event are encouraged to join the 4th of July Steering Committee. More information can be found on the city’s website or by contacting the Parks & Recreation Department.
