Among plans disrupted by the arrival of Hurricane Beryl was Pearland’s adoption of the city’s first Cultural Arts Master Plan.
The city council’s July 8 agenda included the adoption of a first-ever arts plan. However, Beryl canceled that meeting, which has been rescheduled for 4 p.m. on July 22 at City Hall.
Commissioned by the Convention and Visitors Bureau in 2023, the cultural arts plan incorporated public feedback gathered during the past year and calls for an Arts Administrator position, a signature arts and cultural event, and a nonprofit arts foundation.
The cultural arts plan was contracted to San Diego-based Cultural Planning Group for just under $90,000 and funded through the Pearland Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The agenda of the canceled July 8 meeting included a requested change of the Massey Oaks Planned Development that removes a planned townhouse and shared driveway development and relocates a proposed park, as well as proceeding with the use of eminent domain to acquire property at the intersection of Pearland Parkway and FM 518.
The city is seeking to acquire a portion of 2828 Broadway St. from Chase Bank “to accommodate intersection improvements at Pearland Parkway and FM 518.”
