Officials stress caution as school buses roll

Date:

With most districts starting classes, Texas Department of Transportation officials remind drivers to slow down in active school zones and stop for bus loading and unloading school buses.

The use of electronic devices, including cell phones, is prohibited in school zones, and traffic fines increase.

Officials remind parents that children should be dropped off and picked up only in designated areas, not in roadways, and traffic patterns may be changed at campuses since last year.

Unless headed in the opposite direction on a divided highway with a median, all traffic must stop for school buses with flashing lights. Traffic going the same direction as a school bus must also stop for flashing lights. First-offense violations can lead to a fine of up to $1,250.
