School clothing swap events make return

Date:

by Nicole Bradford

A monthly event that allows families with students in Pearland ISD to trade or donate outgrown school clothes made its return, with swap days scheduled twice a month through the end of the year.

Organized by the Pearland ISD Council of PTAs, the Swap Shop and Community Closet was created to help families struggling to afford school clothes. All swap shops are held at 7343 Bailey Road. The clothing to be exchanged should be clean and in good condition with no tears, stains, or missing buttons.

The next Swap Shop event is 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20.

Upcoming Swap Shops are also set for 10 a.m. to noon on Sept. 7; from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 17; from 10 a.m. to noon on Oct. 5; from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 15; from 10 a.m. to noon on Nov. 2; from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 19; from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 7 and from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 17.

Donations of new socks and underwear are also welcome, as the swap shop provides clothing through a voucher program. Donations of lunch kits, backpacks, and new or gently worn shoes are also encouraged. Vouchers for needy families are available by contacting the campus nurse, counselor, or principal.

Volunteers are needed for this program. For more information, email swapshop@pisdpta.org.
