The Alvin Community College Board of Regents approved the 2024-25 fiscal year budget during their meeting on August 15.
Regents voted unanimously to approve the $50.7 million budget, which will take effect in September.
The budget includes 11 new positions, including new faculty members needed to address a projected increase in Dual Enrollment students.
Part of the revenues from the 2024-25 budget will include an additional $1.16 million from the state legislature through the recent passage of House Bill 8.
Regents also voted 6-3 to approve a 2024-25 tax rate proposal and will have a public hearing on the rate before their meeting on September 26. The proposed rate is 15.6 cents per $100 of property value.
In other action, regents evaluated a report on the damage assessments due to Hurricane Beryl. Several buildings and facilities suffered damage from the storm, including buildings J, N, and T, as well as the baseball field and tennis courts. Over $876,000 in contracts have been approved since the storm so far to address the damages.
Regents also:

-approved 2024-25 fiscal year cooperative purchase programs
-heard report on safety and security audit
-approved hiring of instructors for Biology and Welding
-approved monthly financial reports
The board will meet on Thursday, September 26, at 6 p.m. in the Nolan Ryan Center.
