Pearland school board members, at their Oct. 8 meeting, recognized and thanked retiring Rep. Ed Thompson for his service and support of the school district.
Thompson, who in the past has served on the board, emphasized the importance of educators in a community. He also presented the board with a proclamation recognizing the district’s placement on the 2023-24 Texas Honor Roll by the Education Results Partnership. The list recognizes districts with high scores on the STAAR test in reading, language arts, and math.
“It speaks highly for what’s been done in Pearland,” Thompson said.
At the same meeting,  Mayor Kevin Cole thanked the board for loaning the city a site used for debris storage during cleanup efforts.
“Our hope is we turned that site over to you better than we found it,” Cole told the board.
“When a storm comes through, the Pearland community comes together. People helping people and neighbors helping neighbors is what happened.”
