The City of Pearland’s next Charter Review Commission is set to be appointed in January, and interested city residents are encouraged to apply.
Selected every five years, the seven-member advisory board spends six months reviewing the city’s charter periodically to determine if amendments are needed.
The committee is charged with bringing back a report and recommendations to the council on the city charter or framework for the city’s operation. Any recommended changes would be subject to approval by the city council and city residents.
“It would go to the voters if anything comes out of that for a charter review update,” Mayor Kevin Cole said during a Monday night discussion. “There are some public hearing notices along the way.”
Recommended amendments would be presented to voters in a May 2026 city election.
The advisory committee appointments will be discussed and made during a council session.
“It would be nice to have a good group of 12 to 15 people to review,” Cole said. “It’s open and transparent to the public.”
Applicants must live in Pearland city limits and need not own property.
“We want citizens of the community,” Cole said.
More information on the commission will be available on the city’s website, pearlandtx.gov.
