The Friendswood High School Choir continued its journey toward All-State recognition with a strong performance at the Pre-Area Auditions on Thursday, December 5. Known as one of the most challenging stages in the competition, the Pre-Area Audition pits 15 of the most talented singers in each of the eight-voice parts against one another, with only the top five advancing. Many of these categories began with as many as 150 singers back in September, underscoring the high level of competition.
Out of the 22 FHS choir members who competed, five talented singers achieved top-five rankings in their respective voice parts and will advance to the State auditions in January. These outstanding musicians are:
- Soprano 2:Hailey Setoudeh (4th place)
- Alto 1:Avery Buras (4th place), Haley Smith (5th place)
- Alto 2:Trinity Bosley (3rd place)
- Tenor 1:Paige Garcia (5th place)
Additionally, several FHS students earned alternate spots in their sections and may have the opportunity to compete at Area if openings arise. The alternates include Brie McDowell, Roxie Harris, Cassidy Zavala, Zoey Steingas, Aiden Stephenson, and Elijah Meaux.
“We are incredibly proud of all our students for their hard work, dedication, and musicianship,” said Assistant Choir Director Melissa Smith. “Please join us in congratulating these outstanding performers.”
The State auditions in January will bring the final opportunity for these students to secure their places in the Texas All-State Choir.
