Homeowners Honored at Heritage Gardeners’ Luncheon

Homeowners in Friendswood who opened their holiday-decorated homes for the 58th Annual Heritage Gardeners Christmas Home Tour on November 23 and 24 were honored at a luncheon recently.

The event was part of the December meeting for the area garden club. Tour Chair Paula Matranga presented four sets of homeowners plaques, who thanked each couple for participating.

Homeowners included Sky Lyn and Tim Gibbons, Hilary and Gerry Murphy, Ginger Buckaloo, and Stacy and Jacob Heck.

A potluck luncheon followed the award presentations.

Matranga also thanked the various chairs of the events that went along with the tour weekend. Maria Kaminsky and Jane Gibson were showcased for their amazing bakery. Deena Metaxas was thanked for outstanding raffles, and Paula Oddo and Denise McElyea were highlighted for their successful vendor market.

Dianne Barron and Julie Niccum handled ticket sales.

The club looks forward to their next meeting, January 2, where resident and Galveston County Master Gardener Sven Bors-Koefoed will present his recipe for rich, nutrient-filled soil made from leaves that fall from trees in yards.

He never sends bagged leaves that have fallen to the landfill. Instead, he makes them into great soil. Anyone interested in hearing about the ‘recipe’ can attend the presentation on Thursday, January 2, at 10 am. Meet and Greet with refreshments begins at 9:30 am at 112 W. Spreading Oaks in Friendswood.

Heritage Gardeners also welcome new member Martha Cotton, who joined the December meeting.
