A 220-acre tract south of Old Massey Ranch Road is set to become part of the Massey Oaks development with lots for 639 single-family homes.
Pearland council members on December 16 approved the first of two readings for a zone change for the tract from residential to Massey Oaks’ planned development.
“I like the fact that this is being pulled into the (planned development) so it will flow with adjacent development,” Councilman Tony Carbone said.
Mayor Kevin Cole agreed that the cohesion with the original neighborhood is preferred.
“That would be better than having it fractured and detached,” he said.
The tract is located south of Old Massey Ranch Road, east of the future Harkey Road, and west of McLean Road. Proposed lot types vary in size.
The addition will include three parks, a trail system, and detention ponds.
“At this time, there is significant builder interest,” applicant Andrew Lang of BGE Inc. said.
The first reading of the zone change passed the council 4-1, with Councilman Joseph Koza against. Councilman Chad Thumann recused himself from the discussion and vote, stating he owns adjacent property to the site.
