Pearland City Council on December 16 passed the final of two required ordinance readings to annex Municipal Utility District November 16, which includes several neighborhoods plus the Hickory Slough Sportsplex.
Also approved was a memorandum of understanding detailing the approximately three-month transition as well as designating approximately $1.5 million remaining in the MUD fund for projects within the district.
“We have had multiple meetings with the MUD board and property owners and homeowners’ association,” City Manager Trent Epperson said.
MUD No. 16 includes Avalon Terrace 1 and 2 and Lakeside Estates, along with the sportsplex and proposed commercial development known as Asian Town on 12 acres fronting FM 518. That development will include a grocery store followed by two retail phases.
As part of the city, residents are entitled to city fire and police protection, in-city parks and recreation rates, street and drainage maintenance, in-city utility rates, and waste pickup.
