Downtown Development Activity Picking Up Steam

Date:

Multiple significant projects are in development for Friendswood’s downtown district, according to updates provided at Monday’s Planning and Zoning Commission meeting.

During discussion of the Development Review Committee report, Director of Community Development Aubrey Harbin revealed that one “significant project” is currently under review, with two more from the same builder in the works.

“Exciting things moving forward in the downtown district,” Harbin said, noting that one of the three projects had been submitted that day.

The commission also approved a preliminary plat for Laurel Park Friendswood 3, located at 2114 South Friendswood Drive. The 1.98-acre commercial subdivision in the downtown district will require additional review to address water line locations and sidewalk easement concerns.

“This is kind of a clean-up plat,” said Brett Banfield, representing Laurel Park Friendswood 3. “We purchased the property about three years ago…technically we own out into the middle of Friendswood Drive, so we need to get that cleaned up.”

The preliminary plat was approved with conditions, requiring it to return to the commission in December after staff review of recent modifications.
