Three underage suspects who stole a Beaver mascot costume from a west Pearland Buc-ee’s location were identified by authorities after being captured on security video.
“Upon reviewing surveillance footage, three males were observed entering the Buc-ee’s office,” Pearland Police stated in a post released shortly after the New Year’s Day incident. “The suspects took various pieces of the mascot costume, including the head, gloves, shirt, and feet with a combined value of over $1,900.”
After police asked for help identifying the burglars, the incident made the rounds on social media. While some described the theft as the ultimate senior prank, others denounced the crime and suggested the culprits be forced to wear the costume as fitting punishment.
The Lake Jackson-based chain of convenience stores, fuel, and travel center complexes uses the beaver mascot to promote its stores and engage with customers by posing for photos.
Theft of property valued between $750 and $2,500 is a class A misdemeanor, punishable by fines up to $4,000 and up to a year in jail.
