Pearland ISD Elementary Schools Win Crest Award

Date:

Pearland ISD’s Carleston and Rustic Oak Elementary Schools have received the prestigious 2024 CREST Award for Counseling Excellence.

This recognition places school counselors Tara Lemaire (Carleston) and Landry Angel (Rustic Oak) among a distinguished group of educators across the state.

In 2005, the Texas School Counselor Association began a CREST program recognizing schools with outstanding counseling programs. Schools receiving CREST awards have demonstrated a commitment to using the Texas Model to improve the lives and achievement of students in academic, career, and personal social domains. The Texas School Counseling Association announces CREST winners for the 2024-2025 school year.

CREST is a continuous improvement document that allows a school counseling program to demonstrate effective communication and a commitment to obtaining results.

CREST helps counselors evaluate their counseling programs, promote their programs to the stakeholders in their districts, demonstrate the effectiveness of their guidance and counseling programs empirically, and implement the Texas and National models for school counseling programs.

CREST looks at the counseling program in five categories:

• Introduction to the School and the Role of the Professional School Counselor

• Program Implementation Cycle

• Foundational Components

• Four Service Delivery Components

• Program Curriculum

The counseling team prepares a digital submission highlighting these areas and communicates what the counseling program is doing to help students succeed. These are sent to reviewers throughout Texas to be judged according to pre-set standards of excellence.

“This award is a wonderful recognition of our counselors’ invaluable work for our students,” Dr. Lisa Nixon, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, said. “Tara and Landry’s dedication to supporting student well-being and academic success makes a real difference, and this is a well-deserved honor.”
