Friendswood ISD Sees Positive Progress in Average Daily Attendance

Friendswood ISD (FISD) is celebrating significant progress in improving Average Daily Attendance (ADA) during the first semester of the 2024-2025 school year. All campuses in the district reported increases in attendance rates, ranging from 1 to 2 percent compared to last year, highlighting the district’s commitment to ensuring students are present, engaged, and achieving success.

The increase in ADA directly impacts the district’s funding from the State of Texas. For each 1 percent increase in attendance, FISD receives approximately $500,000 in additional funding. These funds are critical for supporting student programs, maintaining quality facilities, and providing resources for a high-quality education.

“Our focus on improving attendance is about more than just numbers — it’s about investing in our students’ futures,” FISD Superintendent Thad Roher said. “When students are in school, they have greater academic success, experience improved social-emotional well-being, and develop the skills necessary to succeed in adulthood.”

Research shows consistent school attendance leads to better academic outcomes, stronger social connections, and increased employability. FISD is committed to fostering a culture of attendance across all campuses by partnering with parents, staff, and students.

The district has implemented various initiatives to promote attendance, including campus presentations, social media campaigns, and personalized outreach efforts. These strategies emphasize the importance of being present at school and its long-term benefits to students and the community.

“We are grateful for the support of our families and staff in prioritizing attendance,” Roher added. “This progress is a testament to our community’s dedication to student success.”
