Manvel City Council met with staff on Saturday, February 8, 2020 for a goals workshop. The group used the workshop to discuss major issues facing the city.
The creation of a drainage system was a top priority. The system would feed flood waters into a 115-acre detention pond.
The City completed the purchase of 115 acres in January 2020 to build a regional detention facility at South Masters and Jordan. The anticipated facility will include a large-scale water detention pond and possible recreational amenities.
Manvel purchased the land but intends for it to be of regional benefit.
At an upcoming meeting, Council will be approving the hiring of an engineer to design the pond. After City Council chooses the engineering firm, the City will begin meetings with the C&R#3, TXDOT and the Gulf Coast Water Authority to discuss how to create the regional drainage plan that will lead water to the facility.
Council also discussed building a new police station, upgrading to Council having paperless packets and improving technology to better serve residents.
The possibility of a community theater and the preservation of the community’s natural environment were also discussed.
Council plans to have additional goals workshops throughout the year.
