Friendswood voters support FISD VATRE

Date:

Friendswood voters supported the $1.08 tax rate for the school district with roughly 60% of the vote in favor.

Thanks to increasing home values and new neighborhoods like Avalon the new tax rate will result in a nearly $1.2 million increase in funding for the school district, while decreasing the total tax rate by .1294 cents.

If the measure had failed, the tax rate would have dropped to $1.0224 which would maintain school funding at its current level.

District administrators intend to use the surplus to increase teacher salaries beyond the 1.5% increase that was passed over the Summer.
