Veterans Day events set this weekend

A variety of events are planned this Friday and Saturday to celebrate Veteran’s Day on Nov. 11, honoring American veterans of all wars.

Alvin ISD will hold a Veteran’s Day ceremony and barbecue luncheon on Friday, beginning at 10 a.m. at Freedom Field in Iowa Colony. Veterans will meet at 9 a.m. at Alumni Hall at Freedom Field, 108555 Iowa Colony Blvd.

Also, on Friday, Pearland’s Melvin Knapp Center, 2424 South Park Ave., is hosting a 9:30 a.m. Veterans Day Bingo session for seniors and all veterans are invited to play for free. For more information or to register, call 281-652-1890.

The Pearland Veterans Day Walk will be 8 to 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Recreation Center, 4141 Bailey Road. The walk benefits local nonprofits that help veterans. For more information or to register, visit Pearlandwalk.org.

In downtown Angleton, the Brazoria County Veterans Association will hold the Brazoria County Veterans Day Parade at 11 a.m. Saturday. Next year’s parade, in November 2024, will be held in Pearland.

Brazoria County library branches will be closed for the holiday, reopening Monday.
