Changes made in tow truck rules

Date:

Pearland City Council in May approved changes to the city’s tow truck ordinances.
Under the new code, permits for tow truck companies are non-transferable to other people or companies.

“When the original applicant is no longer the owner, the new owner must apply for a permit,” city documents state. “These updates are a chance to reset this to the intended purpose and to treat those permits like others in the city, requiring a new owner to apply for a permit.”

Much of the updates are to align with current state laws and clarify definitions. The city’s tow truck ordinance was last updated in 1991.
