Block grant dollars may go to drainage

Date:

by Nicole Bradford

Pearland city leaders plan to use block grant funding to complete drainage upgrades along Garden Road, O’Day Road, Brookland Acres Subdivision, and Woody Road.

The City Council on Monday held the second of two required public hearings to allocate the funding and approved a resolution authorizing the reallocation of funds.

Block grant funds are also being allocated to re-roof the Pearland Neighborhood Center.
Received annually, Community Development Block Grant Funds are awarded through U.S. Housing and Urban Development.

Current projects underway using the funding include an expansion to the Knapp Center and improvements at the Pearland Neighborhood Center, leaving about $630,842 available for eligible uses.

Block grant funds must be used to either remove blight, meet urgent needs such as disasters or serve low to moderate income areas.
