FISD Board approves new teaching positions for 2025-2026

Date:

The Friendswood ISD Board of Trustees has approved the addition of eight new teaching positions for the 2025-2026 school year, a move that marks a positive shift following recent staffing reductions due to budget constraints. The resolution passed unanimously during the board’s latest meeting.

Among the new positions, one will be an Assistant Principal at Cline Elementary, while the remaining seven will be at Friendswood High School, including a Dance Teacher, a Percussion Teacher, and five general education teachers.

Last year, the district was forced to reduce staffing levels, largely due to state budget constraints. The Texas Legislature has not adjusted the per-student funding allotment since 2019, putting financial pressure on school districts across the state. Friendswood ISD, like many other districts, has been advocating for an increase in state funding to meet growing educational demands.

With several bills currently under consideration in the Texas Legislature that propose adjustments to the per-student allotment, district leaders remain hopeful that additional funding relief may be on the way.

The newly approved positions will help Friendswood ISD enhance academic and fine arts programs, as well as provide critical administrative support at the elementary level. The hiring process for these roles is expected to begin in the coming months.
