“Lunch with a Scientist” welcomes community partners at FHS

Date:

Friendswood High School recently hosted “Lunch with a Scientist,” bringing together Biomedical Innovation Capstone students, local scientists, and medical professionals for an afternoon of authentic learning and real-world connections.

The event was organized by Friendswood High School Biomedical Science teacher Heather Martin, whose passion and dedication to her students help make this opportunity possible each year. Through her leadership, students experience valuable, hands-on learning that connects classroom lessons to real-world applications.

During the event, students engaged in meaningful conversations with professionals in a variety of science and medical fields. They explored potential career paths, gained insight into the realities of working in healthcare and research, and asked thoughtful questions about how to prepare for success in these fields.

Highlighting collaboration across the district’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, the FHS Culinary Arts students catered the luncheon. This partnership between programs demonstrated how CTE courses provide both technical skills and professional experiences that extend beyond the classroom.

“Events like Lunch with a Scientist truly capture what we value in Friendswood ISD: authentic learning and strong community partnerships,” said Lexi Kopp, Executive Director of CTE and Community Partnerships. “Our students not only learn from experts in the field, but they also see how collaboration and professionalism play a vital role in every career.”

Friendswood ISD extends its gratitude to the community members and professionals who volunteered their time and expertise to inspire the next generation of scientists, healthcare providers, and innovators.
