Mustangs topple Texas City, 31-6

Friendswood High School opened the 2026 football season in convincing fashion Friday night, defeating Texas City 31-6 at home.

The Mustangs held the Stingarees to just six points in the season opener while putting 31 on the board to begin the year 1-0. The victory also extended Friendswood’s home winning streak to three games dating back to last season.

The loss continued a difficult stretch for Texas City. The Stingarees have now lost four consecutive games dating back to the end of the previous season.

The varsity victory completed a successful opening week against Texas City for the Friendswood football program. Friendswood’s junior varsity team also defeated Texas City 28-12 on Thursday, while the freshman Mustangs earned a 29-9 victory.

Friendswood will look to build on the strong start this Friday when the Mustangs face Clear Brook at 7 p.m.

In the current Texas standings, Friendswood has the advantage heading into the matchup.

Texas City will return home to face Sterling High School.
