Pearland City Council approved a resolution for elections in November
at a Special Meeting August 10, 2020 by teleconference/video.

The resolution provided that a General Municipal Election will be held
on November 3, 2020, for the purpose of electing the Mayor and two
Councilmembers.

The resolution also provided for a Special Election on the same date
for certain proposed amendments to the existing Charter of the City.

In response to the global coronavirus pandemic, Texas Governor Gregg
Abbott issued a proclamation suspending certain provisions of the
Texas Election Code to allow all local political subdivisions
utilizing the May 2, 2020 uniform election date to postpone their
election to the November 3, 2020 uniform election date.

At the March 23, 2020, Pearland City Council Regular Meeting, City
Council voted to postpone the Pearland General Election and Special
Election to November 3, 2020.

Early voting period for any election authorized to occur on November
3, 2020 will begin on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 and last through
Friday, October 30, 2020.

All county election officers are required to contract with local
political subdivisions that postponed their May 2, 2020 election and
that request a contract for election services or a joint election
agreement with their county election officer pursuant to the
Governor’s suspension of certain Texas Election Code provisions.

The City of Pearland will contract with Brazoria County, Fort Bend
County, and Harris County for the November 3, 2020 election. Election
contracts will be presented to City Council for consideration upon
receipt from each county. The polling places for voting on Election
Day and Early Voting will be at the locations designated by the
Counties as countywide polling places.

Harris County canvass reports will be available November 17, 2020 at
4:30 p.m. The County has instructed the entities to schedule entity
canvass after this time.

In other Council news, Tracy Rohrbacher, Marketing Director for the
Convention and Visitors Bureau, has been named Department Director for
the Bureau. The vote by Council was unanimous.
