Routine repairs to water storage tanks will create a small-town Texas feel in Pearland as the city plans to add high school mascots to elevated tanks.
“We actually had a teacher at Pearland High School who brought that request forward,” Mayor Kevin Cole said. “You go to small towns across Texas, and what do they have? Water towers up above with the mascot on it.”
Unlike small Texas towns, the task is a bit more complex for Pearland, with multiple mascots to consider.
“We’re getting to every high school — Shadow Creek is not in this round but we will get to that water tower here in a few years,” Cole said.
City Manager Trent Epperson said that water tank coatings are addressed on a rotating basis for exterior coatings every seven to 10 years. Tanks scheduled to be addressed in the coming year include the elevated Bailey water well and Cullen well, along with a ground storage tank at the Magnolia site.
“When we finish the coatings, we’re going to be complementing these with the local high school logos as we talked about a couple of years ago,” Epperson said. “On one side of the Bailey elevated tank we’ll have the Turner Railcats. On the other side we’ll have the Pearland Oilers. The Cullen one will get the Dawson Eagles logo.”
In a few years, Epperson said, Shadow Creek High will get a logo at the Kirby location.
