Outdoor winter tradition returns

Date:

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has begun stocking thousands of rainbow trout in Texas locations for fishing programs throughout the winter.
Area ponds to be stocked with the popular fish include Independence Retention Pond in Brazoria after Jan. 15, Lake Friendswood after Jan. 2, and Kitty Hollow Lake in Missouri City after Jan. 7.

Areas already being stocked are Herman Brown Park Pond in Houston, Burke-Crenshaw Lake in Pasadena, and American Legion Park Pond in Missouri City.

“Rainbow trout love cold water and can be caught on a variety of baits and lures, and are great to take home and eat,” says Parks and Wildlife Rainbow Trout program director Carl Kittel. “Our winter rainbow trout program has been a favorite of anglers for over forty years.”

Adults over 17 must have a fishing license with freshwater endorsement and can take no more than five trout with no more than two poles.
