Former U.S. Congressman Pete Olson this month was named chair of the Lone Star Flight Museum Board, succeeding longtime board chairman Scott Rozzell.
Rozzell led the museum’s move from Galveston Island to Ellington Airport in 2017 after Hurricane Ike severely damaged the museum and destroyed numerous historic aircraft.
“The museum has become one of the premier aviation history and STEM education facilities in Texas. All of this was made possible by the hard work of our Board, our talented staff, dedicated volunteers, and the support of our generous donors,” Rozzell said.
Olson was selected for his background in public service, first as a naval aviator and later as a member of Congress for 12 years, Rozzell added.
Olson said he toured the museum in Galveston after Ike, “so I know how far our museum has come in such a short time,” he said. “I intend to build upon these successes as we embark on a new campaign to dramatically expand our education programs and exhibits while making our financial position even stronger for our future.”
