Foundation to hold turtle race, 5K

Date:

Planning is in full swing for the February 10 Alvin ISD Education Foundation Turtle Race and 5K Fun Run, an annual fundraiser held at National Oak Park in Alvin.

“They’re not live turtles,” Alvin ISD Superintendent Carol Nelson explained. “You don’t take them home — you adopt different numbers of turtles.”

Participants may adopt a turtle for $5 each to be in the race, and prizes include a $1,500 travel voucher, a $1,000 shopping spree, and a $500 Visa gift card.

A Kids K is open to children 11 and under, and the 5K will be certified and timed. Check-in is at 7:45 a.m., with the 1K at 8:30 a.m. and 5K at 9 a.m. The turtle race will begin at noon.
