Two killed in separate shootings

Two Pearland children, ages 6 and 10, were killed in separate shootings over the weekend, including Sunday’s shooting at Cole’s Flea Market.

Police believe the Cole’s shooting, reported at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday, is the result of a fight between two men and that two handguns were fired.

Two adults, a 37-year-old man and an 18-year-old male, and three children, ages 14, 16, and 10, were taken to nearby hospitals. The 10-year-old boy died at the hospital, according to police reports.

On Monday night, Pearland Police reported that the 18-year-old who had been injured in the shooting had been arrested: Chavez High School student Cruz Meza of Houston is charged with tampering with evidence and making a false statement to police. An 18-year-old female, Julianna Espino of South Houston, was arrested and charged with one count of making a false statement to police.

Also on Monday, an arrest warrant was issued for David Negrete, 19, for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Considered armed and dangerous, he had not been apprehended as of Tuesday morning.
